🚗 Traffic Is… Still Traffic: The Kennedy-Mabry-Westshore Grind
Kennedy, Dale Mabry, Westshore - plan accordingly. The Westshore booming energy means more density and massive construction projects converging simultaneously. There are no shortcuts and no secrets. The Westshore District is booming with energy and construction, but there’s one constant in this equation that hasn't found a workaround yet: the traffic.
If you’re relying on "shortcuts" or hoping for a lighter day, 2026 isn't going to be your year. The heavy density of Midtown and the massive overhaul of the Westshore Interchange mean the surrounding arteries are at peak capacity.
The Golden Rules for Westshore Commutes:
Kennedy & North Dale Mabry: This intersection remains one of the tightest bottlenecks in the region. If you must be here between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, build in an extra 25 minutes for a trip that should take five.
The Interchange Maze: The $1 billion Westshore Interchange project is moving forward (reconnecting streets like Reo and Trask!), but construction means lane shifts and reduced speeds are now standard procedure.
No Such Thing as a "Shortcut": Trying to cut through neighboring residential streets is only going to slow you down. The main corridors (Lois, Westshore, Cypress) are designed to handle the volume; stick to the main path and keep moving, however slowly.
The Verdict for 2026
There are no surprises, no secrets, and no shortcuts. The "Live-Work-Play" energy means more neighbors and colleagues are on the road. The final solution is patience.
The only way to win the traffic game is to plan accordingly. Build in the extra time, download that podcast you've been meaning to listen to, and just accept the grind.
