Rio Izakaya

Yakitori over live binchotan, fish dry-aged up to 30 days and rice milled daily, on Bridge Street in the Westshore Marina District.

Rio Izakaya is a Japanese spot at 5232 Bridge St (33611) that takes the slow stuff seriously. Chicken, Sakura pork and Wagyu go over live binchotan charcoal, the fish is dry-aged for up to 30 days, and the rice is milled fresh every day.

Order the yakitori platter (breast with shiso, drum with onion, chicken oyster, wing) and the binchotan-grilled hamachi collar, then let a chef's nigiri flight show off the aging. There are Japanese cocktails and a curated sake list, and a free parking lot behind the restaurant.

Hours: Tuesday to Thursday 5 to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday 5 to 11 PM, Sunday 5 to 10 PM, closed Monday. Reserve online. Phone 813.918.7777, care@rioiza.com.
